All she wants to do was be held and all I wanted to do was hold her. She snuggled right in and felt so calm and peaceful whenever I did. It was like a drug to her…her whole body just relaxed and melted into you *sigh* it reminded me of my boys.

But I wasn’t there to cuddle her, I was there to photograph this fleeting time of life and once she was settled that is what I did. She has the most fabulous hair and sweet little lips. She gave the slyest of smiles one of which I caught…but you have to look closely as she dosen’t like to give them away too much.

Kate and Joshua she is beautiful. Don’t wish away the hours you spend snuggling her as all too soon they are gone and the snuggles she give are divine.

new directions [canberra photographer]

August 19th, 2010

Sometimes in life you have to make hard decisions, other times those decisions are quite easy to make but hard to carry out. At the beginning of this year I finally admitted to myself that I am really not cut out to “run” my own business. All the paperwork and numbers and accounts and stuff was doing my head in. Add to that running a home with 4 boys I was starting to struggle. I was being pulled in to many different directions and I felt no-one was getting the best from me…..not my kids, not my husband, not my business and not my clients. I am a naturally unorganised person, just ask my MUM…lol. So I sat down and had a think about what I really wanted to be doing. Well that answer was really easy………photography!!!! but pushing a little further I realised that although I wanted to do photography, meet fabulous people and gorgeous babies and children and take photos of them, I didn’t want to run a business.

So my options were small……employ someone to run the business side for me……well yeah I could do that but how would I pay for that someone??? OR find someone to work for. Again yeah I could, but that is a crazy idea, who would do that. So I put that thought to the back of my head and pushed on.

Then I met Kelly someone I have admired for ALONG time. She is an amazing award winning Wedding Photographer and was run off her feet, and rightly so. We were chatting at a workshop and something she said in passing stuck in my head. Had I found someone who might think my idea of me working for them is not crazy??  Well it took a kick up the bum from another friend for me to contact Kelly but I did and over many coffees over many weeks/monthsthe idea seemed a little less crazy. Well the ideas haven’t stopped there and we have some really exciting this in the pipelines. I had found my solution……I can start sleeping at night again. I can give my all to my clients andstill be there for my boys and my husband. I don’t have to stress about the paperwork or the accounts or that other stuff. See I don’t even know what it is all called…..lol.

So …my point….I am now joining the fabulous team at Kelly Tunney Photography BUT I won’t be shooting weddings….oh no, I will be doing exactly what I am already doing……..newborns…..babies…..children……families……everything I am doing right now. Nothing will change in what I shoot, but I will have the backing of a fully established studio. I will also be surrounded by some seriously kick arse creativity….honestly go and look at Kelly’s work she is just amazing. I am hoping some of that talent will rub off on me…lol.

This means that I will be winding down Natalie Bice Photography it will take a little while to do that and to change everything over. So stay tuned either to my blog here or to Kelly’s portrait blog  and just so you can see how rockin she is this is her wedding blog.

Exciting times ahead…….wheeeeeee!!

and just because I can’t post without a photo here is my cool dude Conor all dressed for his very first school DISCO…..too cool for school.

Beautiful Zeke [canberra newborn photographer]

August 15th, 2010

I love to watch all those tiny newborns I meet grow up into little kids. I first met Elijah 2 years ago as a tiny little newborn. Then when we met a year ago, he had grown up into a little boy NOW  he has grown up into a big brother. Yesterday I ventured back to Elijahs house to meet his brand new baby brother. Unfortunately he wasn’t interested in having his photo taken so that is going to happen next weekend. So this blog post is all about Zeke. He is divine…..oh he made me swoon. He was so calm and peaceful only opening his eyes once or twice the whole time.

Now this last image might look a bit familiar because I did a photo of Elijah as a newborn and I loved it so much I used it on my business card and my profile photo just up th etop of my blog. So we re-created it for Zeke.

Thank you so much M and J for letting me watch your family grow.  Your little boys will bring you a lifetime of joy and happiness.

This gorgeous little man spent quite alot of time just lying there having a good look around. He was in no hurry to fall asleep and I was in no hurry to get him asleep as he was just so beautiful. The sleepys did eventually set in and he drifted off to a wonderful sleep. This little man is going to be one of the most spoilt boys I think as he is the first grandchild on both sides. So with that fact and two totally devoted parents he is very very lucky.

July 25th, 2010

In the post before this one I spoke about wanting and waiting and how sometimes it hurts to want something so badly. Well sometimes that pain isn’t so bad when you get something like these two little boys at the end. Let me tell you these boys were certainly worth the 5 years of heartbreak the Nadi and Tim endured.

Oh I swooned and I clucked the moment I laid eyes on them. So very tiny at 2.5 and 2.9kgs. They also couldn’t wait to meet their mum and dad and so decided to surprise them 3 weeks before their due date. I also kind of think they could wait for their photos session either as they arrived 3 days AFTER the maternity session we did….lol.

I would like to introduce Harry and Max…….awwwwwww

Nadi and Tim you have been blessed with two gorgeous little men, they will make your heart sing with love everyday. Take the time to soak in the newness of them as they grow up all too quickly.

waiting [canberra newborn photographer]

July 12th, 2010

You know when you want something so bad it hurts to just think about it and when you do allow yourself to think about it you get consumed with that thought that it is hard to think of anything else for a while. It could be something really small like wanting a hug from a distant friend or to see someone you haven’t seen for ages. Or maybe it was to know what it would be like to feel the very first kick of your new baby growing inside.

For Nadi and Tim they have been waiting 5 years for the first kick. 5 long, hard, heartbreaking years BUT it has finally arrived. That first kick has not only happened, but, in 9 days time they will meet the brand new members of their family…yup two of them. Two gorgeous little boys, they have been waiting for the right time to bless Nadi and Tim with their love and that time it is now. To celebrate this wonderful occasion they decided to have a mini maternity session in addition to their newborn photos, just to have something other than the self portraits done in the bathroom mirror on the iphone like most of us have done….lol.

How fabulous does Nadi look, there are two big boys in there and she looks better than I did with one…lol. Nadi and Tim I can’t wait to meet your brand new boys in a couple of weeks time. Thanks for letting me be a part of a miraculous time in your lives.

winter sun, paper planes and boys [canberra child photographer]

untitled-3web

As I was sitting at my desk doing some work yesterday I happened to glance out my window and something occured to me. It had been a while since I had taken any photos of my boys. I have been so busy with work and dealing with sick children over the last few weeks that that is all I have been thinking about. Now we have just had a long weekend and the weather was just beautiful. I was sitting at my computer lamenting that I had spent a great deal of the long weekend inside either cleaning our house from top to bottom or working, aside from a few trips out, one to see my beautiful niece.

So when I glanced out the window I suddenly had the urge to grab the boys and my camera and head out to a spot that I had eyed off about 6 weeks ago. Now my boys really don’t co-operate so well when it comes to havign their photo taken, I think they got sick of me a few years ago….lol. Then the thought occured to me to make some paper planes and go to the new spot. So I made some paper planes, rounded up the troops and off we went.

Well the new spot is just as fabulous as I thought it would be and I can’t wait to go back there. Unfortunately my paper planes didn’t fly too well but Brendan managed to make some adjustments to a couple and man they flew. He even managed to get them to fly back to him. So he is on plane duty next time we go.

The boys had a ball and I think they may even be keen to go back and have more photos done, especially if we take Daddy’s paper planes with us. We capped off a lovely spontaneous afternoon with some ice-creams. A perfect ending to a perfect afternoon.

Billy’s baby brother [canberra newborn photographer]

June 8th, 2010

In September 2008 I met a gorgeous little baby boy called Billy he was 11 days old. Well on Monday I met Billy again only this time he was 20 mths old and he is now a big brother. I got to play trains and cars with Billy and then I was introduced to his very new brother Curtis.

untitled-1

Little Curtis was just so sweet and I thoroughly enjoyed my time rocking him to sleep, he was so peaceful once he did drift off. I think I cuddled him a bit longer before starting to photograph him.

After Curtis had decided he was finished being the star of the show we went outside to get some shots of this brand new family of four. Billy was so gentle and loving with his new baby, a true testament of what fabulous parents Tracy and Brad are.

inspiration [canberra photographer]

June 2nd, 2010

Well I know it was over a week ago that I went away up to the Gold Coast for Inspireme 2010 but I have a reason for not blogging about it sooner. See when I got back I had a very important little girl to photograph who you have already seen. I also was greeted with sick kids who ever so kindly shared their sickness with me and Brendan.

So you see we had all 6 members of the family sick at the same time. Oh my lordy it is tough. Usually there is someone to pick up the slack when you are sick……well we had to tag team looking after kids. I am now on drugs and well on my way to being better wich is a good thing as I fly out to Melbourne…yes I know I have only just come home. But you see it is for one night only……..for PMA which is our big trade show and then a huge get together with other photogs from around Aus AND it is also the APPA’s which are our Australian Professional Photography Awards. I am going to watch the judging and hopefully pick up a few tips, so I can be ready to enter  next year. I have a number of my friends who have entered this year and I can’t wait to cheer them on.

So here is what I got up to at the Gold Coast…I met the most amazing photographers from the US and Canada and made some fabulous new friends from around Australia.

Day 1 I got to meet my all time favourite newborn photographer Ashley Skjaveland. She is just amazing to watch, she is a beautiful person, so organic if you can describe a person that way…lol. So grounded and calm, with ajust a little bit of cheeky thrown in for good measure. You can tell she just LOVES her job as a newborn photographer. I stumbled across her work about 3 years ago and that is what made me fall in love with newborn photography. Check out her website www.ashleyskjavlend.com

Day 2 we watched the amazing Brianna Graham…she creates such depth to her photos. Quite amazing really. I don’t have a photo of her I think I was too busy watching her instead….lol.

img_2127

Day 3 you know how relaxing it is to sit on the couch with a blanket and a coffee and have a chat with a good friend?? well that is what it was like with Raye Law. Such has such a huge heart and is just so kind and caring. I loved watching her work. Now I do have some photos of her but I promised not to post them…lol. SO you will have to have these where you can’t really see her face.

On day 4 we were let loose to go and practise what we had learnt…..

So as you can see a feast of photography…I had a wonderful time with wonderful people.

How divine is this little girl. I kept stopping when I was photographing her just to look at her, watch her and listen to all her little noises of protest. She wasn’t very sleepy but eventually she succumbed to the land of nod. Such a beautiful little girl, from a kind and loving family.
